Spring 2012 - Make Way for Music!
Families with Children 0 to Age 5

Build family bonds, creativity and physical and mental development in a delightful one-room schoolhouse for babies, toddlers, preschoolers - and you, the parent. This spring we'll explore the elements of movement (tempo, levels, pathways, weight, energy) and apply them to music for an engaging family experience.

Listen to instruments and to each other, learn from peers and older children, and enjoy music and movement with hoops, scarves and tumble-around play. Story time and family jams, puppet play and happy singing encourage discovery and exploration and foster sharing and social skills too. In this special class, your children will strengthen ties with each other and with you, all while developing the skills they'll need in school and on the neighborhood playground. (10 classes)

At Home Materials include:
Family Activity Guide, 2 Finger Drums, 2 Home CDs, Instrument Board Game, and 2 Story Books.

Foundation of Learning Tip #71:
Reading to a child on a reglar basis increases his knowledge of the world, his vocabulary, his familiary with written language, and his interest in becoming literate. Children whose parents read to them become better readers and do better in school. Activities such as telling stories and singing songs may also encourage acquisiton of literacy skills (adapted from Sonnenschein, Brady, and Munsterman, 1996; Moss and Fawcett, 1995; and Glazer, 1989).
